Before and After Buccal Fat Removal – What to Expect?

The before and after buccal fat removal transformation is striking! After fat pad removal, patients get incredible results with completely natural contour. The best part is that the results are permanent. Dr. Nadir Qazi and his team of board-certified plastic surgeons offer buccal fat pad removal to all qualifying patients.

What Can I Expect Before and After Buccal Fat Removal?

Before buccal fat removal, patients must have a consultation with a board-certified plastic surgeon. The surgeon will provide the patient with instructions for how to prepare. Patients are usually instructed to stop drinking, smoking, and taking blood thinners 2 weeks before the procedure. All pre-op instructions are personalized, so they may vary depending on medical history.

After fat pad removal, patients should take it easy for at least 2 weeks. After 2 weeks, patients can return to their normal activities. It takes 6 to 8 weeks for the incisions to heal. After 6 months, the results will be final.

Buccal fat removal is not as well-known as procedures like a facelift or brow lift. Not everyone is a good fit for this procedure because it requires certain features. The results may vary too depending on your bone structure. Find out if fat pad removal is right for you!

Why You Should Consider Buccal Fat Pad Removal

For many people, you work hard to lose weight, but some of it just won’t go away. It’s common for young adults to have grown out of their baby fat, yet the round cheeks remain. This is where buccal fat removal comes in. In your cheeks, just under the cheekbones, are the buccal fat pads. This is a little pocket of fat in each cheek that gives the face a rounded look. When the fat pad is surgically removed, the baby face is gone.

The results from this procedure may vary by person. It all comes down to your bone structure and the size of the fat pocket. For most patients, fat pad removal results in a Bella Hadid-like look with a defined jawline and sharp cheekbones. The procedure can take you from a round, childish face to an off-duty model look with a V-shaped face.

Am I a Good Candidate for Fat Pad Removal?

The quality of your results depends heavily on your bone structure. This procedure is not right for everyone. It does not work on people with narrow faces. It is important for patients to have enough buccal fat to remove. Otherwise, patients can end up looking too hollow in the cheeks, like a Tim Burton character.

The ideal patient for buccal fat removal meets the following criteria:

    1. Has a sufficiently rounded face for the procedure to be effective.
    2. Is in their 20s or early 30s. This procedure is best for younger people. It is normal for people to lose facial fat with age. If an older person has the fat pads removed from their cheeks, they will look far too gaunt.
    3. Has no diagnosis or family history of wasting diseases.
    4. Their lack of contour is caused by facial fat rather than bone structure.
    5. They are in overall good health, including oral health.
    6. Has stayed at the same, healthy weight for at least a year.
    7. Is able to take time off work to recover and is prepared for the recovery.
    8. Has realistic expectations for the procedure

Buccal fat removal is suitable for both male and female patients.

Before and After Buccal Fat Removal: What to Expect

    The Consultation

Fat pad removal is less invasive than other cosmetic procedures. This means that it is easier to prepare for. The first step of any procedure is consultation. The consultation is the time when you meet with Dr Qazi and his team. At this time, they will decide if you are a good candidate for the procedure.

During the consultation, they may also take photos and measurements of your face. You will be asked about your medical history, including what medications you take. The consultation is also your time to ask questions. Patients are advised to come with questions already prepared. You are also allowed to stop and ask for clarification.

    The Prep

During the consultation, you will receive preparatory instructions for your procedure. For fat pad removal, patients are instructed to:

    • Stop drinking, smoking, and taking blood thinners 2 weeks out. This includes Aspirin and certain herbal supplements.
    • If you will be under general anesthesia, arrange for a ride to and from the procedure. If you are getting local anesthesia, you will be able to drive yourself home.
    • Take a few days off work. The amount of off time will depend on your procedure and your occupation.
    • Stock up on soft foods. This is an excellent time to get really into juicing or making smoothies.

All prep instructions are customized to the patient. You may be asked to stop taking certain medications. You may also be asked to get a blood test done. Your experience before and after buccal fat removal will depend on your health and how your procedure goes.

    The Removal Procedure

Buccal fat removal is unique because it can be done under general or local anesthesia. If patients are combining it with another procedure, they get general anesthesia. Buccal fat removal can safely be combined with a facelift, chin lipo, neck lift, or brow lift. If you are only getting fat pad removal, you will probably get local anesthesia. Once the anesthetic kicks in within 10 to 20 minutes, the procedure can begin.

First, the plastic surgeon will make small incisions on the inside of the cheeks. Next, they will gently maneuver the fat pad into positions so it can be accessed. The surgeon will then trim away the fat pad and close the incisions. The procedure itself can take as little as 30 minutes.

If you had local anesthesia, you can safely drive yourself home. If you had general anesthesia, you will need a support person to take you home.

      The Recovery

When you get home after the procedure, you won’t be in selfie shape yet. It takes about 6 months for the results to be final. This means you’ll have to wait a bit to take your buccal fat pad removal before and after pictures.

Compared to other cosmetic procedures, this recovery is relatively easy. Immediately afterwards, you can expect swelling, pain, and bruising. You should eat soft and liquid foods for the first few days. Once you feel better, you can ease back into solid food. Most patients can return to week and resume exercise after 1 week. Within 2 weeks, you can resume normal activities. Most patients see their final results at 6 months; this is because it takes time for the skin to settle into its new position.

Frequently Asked Questions About Buccal Fat Removal

Will Buccal Fat Removal Change My Smile?

Buccal fat removal will change the shape of your face. However, your smile before and after buccal fat removal should be the same, just slimmer. The procedure won’t affect the quality of your smile. A great example of this is Chrissy Teigen. In Teigen’s buccal fat removal before and after photos, it’s clear that her smile was not changed by the procedure.

Will I Have Scars After Buccal Fat Removal?

The incisions for the procedure are on the inside of your mouth. This means that you will not have visible scars. Someone would have to look inside your mouth to see scarring. You might be able to feel the incisions with your tongue.

Why is Buccal Fat Removal So Popular?

It might not be obvious, but this procedure has really gotten popular. It is part of the larger plastic surgery uptick caused by Zoom envy and social media. Buccal fat removal is popular because it gives patients the 4 things that everyone wants:

      1. Permanent results
      2. Results that look very natural
      3. A procedure that doesn’t require general anesthesia
      4. A procedure with a fast recovery and no scarring

Although the results may vary, this procedure is ideal for a natural-looking transformation. It gives you the kind of results where you look better, but no one can put their finger on why. For young patients, it is a great way to shed that baby fat and get great contour.
