Chin and neck lipo is an effective procedure that yields proven results. Dr. Qazi and his team of plastic surgeons excel at eliminating the presence of a double chin and are here to provide you with all the information you need regarding the procedure.

What is Chin and Neck Liposuction?

First, it is important to note that there is no differentiation between chin and neck liposuction; they are the same thing. As for the procedure itself, Dr. Qazi and his team of plastic surgeons remove excess fat cells from an individual’s neck using liposuction. This is accomplished by making one or two minuscule incisions – either in the neck or behind the ears – and inserting a liposuction cannula in order to perform liposuction.

Now that you possess an appropriate understanding of the procedure, let’s explore common questions associated with such a course of action.

Why Should You Consider Chin and Neck Lipo?

The reasons for considering chin and neck lipo are many and equally viable: perhaps you’ve gotten a bit older and you’ve noticed the skin on your neck beginning to sag; maybe you’ve recently added a few pounds and have accumulated additional fat under your chin; or, rather than waiting for the manifestation of a double chin, you decide you want to be proactive and seek to take preventative measures. No matter the circumstances, it may now be the appropriate time to consider partaking in chin and neck lipo.

A double chin can be the result of several factors, some of which can be controlled, while others cannot. These factors include diet (a poor diet can cause fat buildup on the neck), age (the older you get, the less elasticity your skin has), and genetics (hereditary considerations also apply). Regardless of the cause, a double chin can negatively impact an individual’s satisfaction with their looks.

Thankfully, you do not need to simply accept your double chin as a fixture of your appearance! Dr. Qazi and his team of plastic surgeons can eliminate your double chin, resulting in a more balanced and aesthetic facial appearance: The removal of a double chin adds an undeniable degree of improvement to the overall aesthetic of the face. As mentioned prior, the procedure removes fat from the neck, which in turn brings about a much more defined jawline. This adds an appreciable amount of balance to the face, subsequently bringing about a more youthful, fit appearance.

What You Need to Know about Chin and Neck Lipo

Chin and neck lipo is commonly performed using general anesthesia and is completed in only 30-60 minutes. Furthermore, when executed by trained specialists, such as Dr. Qazi and his team of plastic surgeons, the procedure itself is widely regarded as possessing few risks. Also, Dr. Qazi and his team of plastic surgeons will ensure the incisions made behind the ears or under the chin will be exceptionally discreet to the point that they are nearly imperceptible to those around you.

Recovery time will vary according to the individual and how attentive they are to the post-liposuction care process. With that said, when following proper protocols, you can expect to resume all normal activities and return to work within two weeks. During that time, you may experience slight swelling and discomfort around the neck and chin, though these sensations will decrease with medication and disappear by the time you are cleared to return to work. Dr. Qazi and his team of plastic surgeons will ensure they provide you with a clearly defined post-procedure regimen.

You can combine the procedure with other cosmetic surgeries: There are numerous options available to enhance your physical appearance. Thankfully, it is safe and effective to combine chin and neck liposuction with other procedures, such as a facelift, neck lift, facial implants, or brow lift. Doing so represents a more holistic approach to enhancing your appearance and Dr. Qazi and his team of plastic surgeons are experts in performing all of the aforementioned procedures.

The results are permanent:  According to the American Board of Cosmetic Surgery, the effects of chin and neck liposuction are permanent so long as you maintain your weight. This undeniable benefit means no repeat procedures! Plus, it gives you added incentive to mind your weight and to follow healthy diet and lifestyle routines.

How Do You Know If You are a Good Candidate?

The qualifying criteria for chin and neck liposuction are, fortunately, generous. According to Dr. Qazi, “Anyone who is overall good health, at a stable weight, and has a double chin is a good candidate for chin liposuction.”

Additionally, contrary to popular belief, the procedure is not solely reserved for one age range of the population. Although it is true that it’s more common to undergo chin and neck liposuction the older you get  – a result of decreased skin elasticity as people age – it is by no means rare for people in their 20s and early 30s to undergo the procedure.

In fact, this notion holds true for cosmetic procedures in broader terms. In 2019, 17.5% of all surgical and non-surgical cosmetic procedures were performed on individuals between the ages of 19-34. To provide further insight, individuals between the ages of 35-50 accounted for 38.6% of all procedures, those between 51-64 stood at 20.7% and those above 65 accounted for 12.1% (individuals 18 and younger make up the remaining .8%).

It is clear that people of all ages are opting to engage in elective cosmetic procedures to better their appearance, and chin and neck liposuction absolutely falls under this umbrella. As such, you certainly do not need to wait until you are older to consider eliminating your double chin.

What Do You Need to do to Prepare for the Procedure?

Getting yourself ready for the procedure requires minimal preparation. Patients should cease all smoking and stop taking blood thinners two weeks prior to the procedure. In addition, patients will be given individual instructions regarding the restriction of certain medications or herbal supplements.

Do Men Get Chin and Neck Liposuction?

They certainly do! The aspiration to enhance one’s physical appearance is not solely relegated to women (nor should it be!). While it is true that women remain the primary demographic for cosmetic surgery, men accounted for 6% of all cosmetic procedures in 2021 according to The Aesthetic Society. Furthermore, liposuction stood as the #1 cosmetic surgery for men last year, with over 30,000 men nationwide electing to undergo the procedure; such statistics serve to underscore the procedure’s popularity amongst the male population. If you are a man and have the desire to get rid of your double chin, know that it is becoming increasingly more common to do so.

How Long Until You See the Results?

Good news: you do not need to wait long to see your enhanced profile and you will soon be displaying your newfound youthful appearance to those around you. Your chin will heal in 4-6 weeks and, after six months, the results will be final.

Neck and Chin Lipo vs. Neck Lift

You’re not happy with the condition of your chin and you’ve decided to do something about it. You may, however, be a little confused as to the differences between neck liposuction and a neck lift. Although they both address cosmetic deficiencies regarding the neck, they do so in different ways. Let’s take a look at what is involved in the process of a neck lift, the recovery process, and the main difference between a neck lift and neck liposuction. Doing so will provide you with a better understanding of what the different procedures entail and how you want to proceed.

What Does a Neck Lift Do?

A neck lift is another method of neck contouring and can address the following areas of concern

      1. Excess fat and skin relaxation in the lower face that creates jowls
      2. Excess fatty deposits under the chin
      3. Loose neck skin (“turkey neck”)
      4. Muscle banding in the neck, which creates abnormal contours

How is a Neck Lift Performed?

In order to perform a neck lift, Dr. Qazi and his team of plastic surgeons will make small incisions behind each ear, and possibly under your chin if need be (these incisions are similar to those performed in neck liposuction). Doing so will then permit the surgeon to  “tighten the neck muscles and/or underlying tissues and remove excess, sagging skin to restore a smoother, firmer, and more youthful appearance to the neck.”

Just as with neck liposuction, the procedure is performed with the use of general anesthesia and is completed in a brief period of time. For a more in-depth analysis of the neck lift procedure, be sure to read through Dr. Qazi’s article on Neck Lift Surgery.

What is the Main Difference Between a Neck Lift and Neck Liposuction?

A neck lift will address muscle laxity in the neck itself and work to rejuvenate the tissue in the neck. In contrast to neck lipo, the process of a neck lift does not directly target fat cells.

What is the Recovery Time of a Neck Lift?

The recovery time of a neck lift is very similar to that of neck liposuction. Typically, when following proper protocol, you will be cleared to return to work and resume normal activities within two weeks following a neck lift. As with neck liposuction, swelling and bruising of the neck are common during this timeframe.

      Which Procedure Should You Choose?

Deciding on a neck lift or neck lipo is a personal choice and is entirely dependent on your own unique situation. Each procedure results in a more contoured neck and provides the pleasant benefit of a more youthful, fit appearance.

In addition, it is not uncommon to combine the two procedures. Doing so is perfectly safe and may present a satisfactory decision for those who are caught deciding between the two.

With that said, if you are unsure which procedure is the best for you (or if you should do both!), schedule a consultation with Dr. Qazi and his team of plastic surgeons. They will gladly guide you through the process, evaluate your individual circumstances, and make a personalized recommendation that suits your needs.
