What Are Chin Fillers And Why Should I Request Them to Balance My Face?

Are you happy with how your chin looks? Is it too long? Too thin? Not wide enough? Too plain? Or just “weak” looking? If you’re asking yourself any of these questions, chin fillers may be what you’re searching for.
While we’re all born with different shaped chins of different sizes, a variety of shapes, and widths, it’s relatively easy to see how much benefit you can gain through a chin augmentation with filler.
Chin fillers can give you a stronger looking chin, soften a chin cleft, restore volume, and are generally a great way to balance your face’s features–– with no surgery or downtime.
What Exactly Is a Chin Filler?
A chin filler is similar to the other dermal filler procedures offered at Qazi Cosmetic Clinic and MedSpa to naturally enhance your face with micro-adjustments in approximately 30 to 45 minutes––in a safe, quick procedure.
Now, you may take your chin for granted, but it’s the key to an attractive face and one of the main things that someone notices about you, besides your eyes, nose and lips. Your chin defines your face and if you want it to look better, this is a simple treatment to accomplish that.
Does a Chin Filler Work Best For Men or Women?
The answer is both. But while a male chin would be sculpted wider and more masculine, a woman’s chin is typically sculpted narrower and feminine.
Men choose this non-surgical procedure when they want a more structured chin with a stronger jaw.
This includes the strong chin lines of many movie stars, such as Cary Grant, Kirk Douglas, Clint Eastwood, Viggo Mortensen, Jude Law, John Travolta, Ben Affleck, and Jon Hamm. In fact, many of our male patients say that chin fillers can enhance their facial features so they look younger and stronger.
On the other hand, women choose chin augmentation with filler because it’s a great alternative to chin implants, which does require an expensive surgery procedure. A non-surgical chin filler procedure can look very natural, and not masculine, when performed correctly by a skilled cosmetic surgeon.
The chin is often treated along with the jaw to enhance and define the face. Although quite often forgotten, the chin is important for women to create balance and harmony with the rest of the face.
Chin fillers can help reduce the appearance of a larger nose or recessed chin.
Famous women who are known to have great-looking chins include Adele, Elisha Cuthbert, Julia Roberts, Kim Kardashian, Penelope Cruz, Angelina Jolie, Jessica Chastain, Jennifer Lopez, Keira Knightly, Reese Witherspoon, and Jennifer Aniston.
Which Dermal Fillers Work Best for Chin Filling?
Among the various choices, a chin filling procedure can be performed with Radiesse®, an FDA-approved injectable filler to provide immediate volume and correction opportunities that can last two years over other popular dermal fillers.
Dr. Qazi prefers this particular dermal filler vs. Juvederm® and Sculptra® and has seen the best results with Radiesse, a calcium-based filler that contains Calcium Hydroxylapatite (CaHA) microspheres, which are a naturally occurring mineral form of calcium apatite. CaHA is a modified form of hydroxyapatite, comprised up to 50% by volume and 70% by weight of human bone. This mineral is also the principal material of dental enamel and dentin. By itself, HA is used for bone grafts such as dental prosthetics.
In fact, this cosmetic filler is a very popular product worldwide. Once injected under your skin, it:
- Triggers your body to stimulate collagen production in your chin
- Fills in specific areas of your chin and jawline to make chin wrinkles disappear
- Smooths and plumps the area around your chin over the next one to two months
- Dissipates out moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds
- Offers long-lasting, beautiful results
- Can also be used on your hands, cheekbones, and other areas of your body
Radiesse is manufactured by a German company, Merz Pharma GmhH & Company, which is active in the research, the development, and the distribution of innovative products in aesthetic medicine. This product was launched in the U.S. in 2010 Other brands in its portfolio of American products include Botolinum Toxin (better known as Botox®), Belotero®, Cellfina, Ultherapy, and Neocutis.
Does a Particular Culture Choose Chin Fillers More Than Others?
The short answer is “Yes”.
It’s become a very popular treatment for people within the Asian culture who feel that their faces are flat, who have recessed chins, or who just want a better balance given to their face.
While Asian patients tend to show their age more slowly than Caucasians, chin augmentation with filler offers a robust improvement to their chin and jaw areas as it maintains natural-looking contours.
What Is The Pre-Procedure Protocol?
Starting one week before your procedure, it’s important not to use any aspirin, non-steroidal anti-inflammatories (such as Advil, Aleve, and Motrin), garlic, flax or cod liver oil, Vitamins A and E, and other essential fatty acids as these may make you more likely to bleed or bruise. You should also not schedule any chemical peels one to two weeks prior to your procedure.
The day of your in-office procedure to improve the looks of your chin, Dr. Qazi recommends that you do not wear any makeup and please do not consume any alcohol for 24 hours prior to your procedure.
What Happens During the Procedure?
You’ll be welcomed into our modern, comfortable offices and led to one of our suites.
Dr. Qazi will discuss the procedure beforehand, tell you exactly what he will be doing, will tell you that there will be minimal, if any, pain, and will proceed with the injections into your chin and jaw areas.
He will then gently inject you with a chin filler, and make a few to multiple injections to achieve your desired results during the non-surgical chin augmentation with filler.
What Are Some Benefits of Chin Fillers?
There are many benefits for this type of non-surgical procedure. These include:
- No surgery
- No downtime –– you can return to work or home immediately
- Only uses a topical anesthetic; no general anesthesia
- Can improve your chin immediately
- Can be touched up with follow-up treatments to maintain the look you prefer
- Can let a patient see the results of a fuller chin vs. a surgical chin implant
- Is far less expensive than an actual chin implant
How Long Does a Chin Filler Last?
When Radiesse is used as a chin filler, it can offer a natural-looking result almost immediately, then get better over time as your body adds collagen in your chin and jawline.
It typically has a duration of at least two years. After that, if you are pleased with the results, you can ask Dr. Qazi about a follow-up in-office procedure with additional injections to reinforce the look you want.
What Are Typical Chin Filler Results?
As mentioned above, to yield natural, yet effective results, it will usually take about two weeks (14 days) after your treatment.
At that time, Dr. Qazi can assess whether or not you will need a further treatment because chin filling is not permanent to achieve your aesthetic goals in our Newport Beach, California office here in Orange County.
What Are Other Uses for Radiesse?
Because Radiesse provides long-lasting, beautiful results as a dermal filler, it’s also popular as a hand treatment to smooth out wrinkles and add volume, to your jawline to create a strong and defined jawline, and as a cheekbone enhancement to define a natural appearing, contoured face.

Chin Filler Before and After Photos

Meet one of our patients.
She didn’t like the look of her chin, felt self-conscious about it, and wanted to do something about it.
After an initial consultation with Dr. Qazi, she agreed that non-surgical chin filler injections with Radiesse could improve her looks instead of undergoing a permanent chin implant that requires surgery.
Notice how her chin is now a bit more pointed, a bit longer, and not as plain looking? This procedure took about 30 to 45 minutes. Because we mix Radiesse with lidocaine, which is an injectable anesthetic, the chin filler injection was virtually painless to create a more defined jawline and chin line.
The results are what she wanted and she is very pleased with the outcome. She is happy with how these subtle changes make her feel about herself and now has a very positive attitude about her chin. Immediately after the procedure, she noticed more volume in her chin area.

Aftercare Instructions for A Chin Filling Procedure
Dr. Nadir Qazi of the Qazi Cosmetic Clinic & MedSpa tells his patients that after this non-surgical procedure, you may notice a bit of swelling, a little bruising, and perhaps some tenderness where the injections took place.
But all of these issues are typically common and should resolve themselves over the next few days to a week or more. Many patients experience relief by holding a lightweight cold compress to their chin to help reduce swelling.
Also, Dr. Qazi does not recommend that you exercise vigorously after getting chin fillers over the first 24 to 48 hours to let the Radiesse settle in and begin creating collagen in the areas where it was injected. Avoid sun and heat, especially tanning beds, massages, extreme cold.
In addition, Dr. Qazi recommends that you do not book any important events for three to at least six days after your chin filling procedure because minor swelling can occur. You should also avoid taking blood thinners and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDS) because they may increase bleeding.
