It is common for both men and women to develop a double chin with age. Dieting and exercise are not able to reduce fat pockets under the chin. If you want to improve your profile and look slimmer, then chin lipo at Qazi Cosmetic Clinic may be right for you!

What is Chin Lipo Procedure and How To Use It?

Chin lipo is a procedure in which a plastic surgeon removes fat cells from the chin using liposuction. During the procedure, the surgeon makes a small incision in the treatment area. They use a cannula to vacuum out the extra fat cells. The results of chin liposuction are long-lasting and nearly permanent. The purpose of this procedure is to treat double chins. After liposuction on the neck, patients can enjoy a slimmer face, a thinner neck, and a more defined jawline.

The biggest benefit of liposuction for the chin is a slimmer appearance. It is ideal for men who are no longer able to button their shirts up all the way. A more defined jawline can also help women look younger. Keep reading to learn more about the preparation, the recovery, and if you are a good candidate for this procedure.

How Does Chin Liposuction Work?

Liposuction is a popular procedure that can remove fat pockets from almost any area of the body. If your double chin is caused by excess fat, rather than sagging skin, then lipo can be an effective treatment.

The procedure is straightforward and not overly involved. You, the patient, will be put under with general anesthesia and monitored by an anesthesiologist. Next, one of Dr. Qazi’s plastic surgeons will begin by making a small, shallow incision in the treatment area. The purpose of this incision is to allow access to the underlying fat cells.

The plastic surgeon will use a cannula, a common medical device, to vacuum out the extra fat cells under the chin. Once the desired amount of fat is removed, the small incision will be closed up using dissolvable stitches. The medical team will apply dressings to the treatment area and you will be taken to the recovery room.

After a liposuction procedure, it is normal for patients to be drowsy, sore, and a little out of it. In some cases, the medical team may need to leave drains in the treatment area. This is to prevent fluid buildup under the skin. If you have drains under your chin, they will either be removed when you wake up or you will be instructed on how to remove them yourself.

What Are the Benefits of Chin Liposuction?

    1. A more defined jawline and overall improved appearance.
    2. Chin liposuction can have an anti-aging element: a slimmer chin can make you look younger.

Liposuction on the chin, as well as other areas of the body, is not a weight loss procedure. If you get on a scale after your procedure, you will not notice any change to your body weight. The benefits of chin lipo are entirely aesthetic. Patients who have already gotten the procedure report overwhelmingly positive reviews and satisfaction rates. In a survey by RealSelf, 92% of respondents reported that the procedure was “worth it.”

How Do You Know if Chin Liposuction Is Right for You?

If you are interested in liposuction for the chin, it is important to determine if you are a good candidate. The best way to do this is to schedule a consultation at Qazi Cosmetic Clinic. Dr. Qazi will consider your health history, age, aesthetic goals, and the severity of your double chin before making a recommendation.

Above all else, a good candidate for the procedure must be in good physical health. It is not recommended for anyone with a blood disorder or a serious illness. However, diabetics can safely get chin liposuction as long as they:

    • Have their condition under control.
    • Have been at a stable weight for over a year.
    • Are able to properly manage their condition during recovery.
    • Are willing to undergo blood tests and a physical to ensure that their diabetes is under control.

The next factor in your eligibility for chin liposuction is the severity of your condition. Because it is an involved surgical procedure, patients must have a large enough double chin to justify the procedure.

If you have a mild or moderate double chin, then Dr. Qazi may recommend a different procedure for you. For example, MicroLipo is a non-invasive version of liposuction that can remove small pockets of fat without the need for general anesthesia. Qazi Cosmetic Clinic also offers Kybella, which is a non-invasive alternative that requires no incisions.

Patients of all ages are able to get liposuction for the chin. It is common for young people whose double chins are due to genetics to get liposuction in their 20s or 30s. The majority of patients who get the procedure are in their 50s. According to an article from Healthline, chin liposuction is best for people who are between 20 years old and 50 years old. People in this age range generally have the best skin elasticity, which means that their skin will easily snap back.

If you are over the age of 60, you may be advised to get a neck lift and liposuction combo procedure. This is ideal because it treats both the double chin and any loose skin that may result from liposuction.

Finally, the cause of your double chin can make you an ideal candidate for chin lipo. The purpose of the procedure is to remove fat cells, so this procedure only works if your double chin is caused by extra fat. Once the extra fat is gone, the skin should conform to the new shape. If you have a “turkey neck,” which is caused by sagging skin on the neck, then liposuction will not be helpful. For patients whose aesthetic ailments are caused by loose skin, a neck lift is a more effective procedure.

      2. Make a list of your questions.
      3. Bring a copy of your medical history, including a list of all medications and supplements that you take.

What is the Recovery After Chin Lipo Like?

The recovery from chin liposuction lasts 4 to 6 weeks. Most people are able to return to work after 5-7 days; however, you may need to take more time off if you work a physically demanding job.

Here’s what to expect after your liposuction procedure:

      Immediately After the Procedure

When you wake up in the recovery room, you will be sore, and groggy, and you will have bandages on your chin and neck. A recovery nurse might help you walk around a little to help with blood circulation. Immediately after the procedure, you should start wearing your compression garment. This is a medical clothing item that is designed to put pressure on the treatment area. Compression garments help control swelling, speed up healing, and alleviate some of the discomforts.

      2-5 Hours After

You will experience the most discomfort and soreness in the hours after the procedure. By this time, the anesthetic from the procedure will have worn off. Most patients are safe to go home on the same day as their procedure. However, older patients or people with underlying conditions may be kept overnight in the hospital for monitoring.

In the hours after your procedure, you should stay hydrated, stay upright, take your prescribed painkillers and antibiotics, and rest as much as possible. You will need someone to pick you up after the procedure; it is best if this person stays with you for the first 24-48 hours.

      3 Days After the Procedure

After a few days, the swelling will have started to go down. You should continue wearing your support garment until told otherwise. After 3 days, it will be safe for you to shower again. When you do shower, do not scrub the treatment area; simply let soap and water flow over it.

If medical drains were left in your neck, you will either need to come in for them to be removed or you will be told to remove them yourself.

      5-7 Days After

It is normal for the bruising and swelling to persist after the first week. After day 5, you are safe to gently massage the treatment area. You should still be careful in the shower and while shaving, but you can resume your household activities.

On average, patients are able to return to work after 5-7 days. You will still be a little swollen and bruised, so you may want to work remotely or keep your neck wrapped in a scarf.

      2 Weeks After Surgery

Most patients are cleared to resume almost all their normal activities after 2 weeks. If you have a gym routine, you may need to ease back into it slowly. If you swim or enjoy saunas, you will need to wait for the incisions to heal before you can submerge the treatment area.

At the 2-week mark, you will probably see some initial results. With some reduced swelling, you will be able to see and feel your new chin.

The recovery period of chin liposuction

      4-6 Weeks After the Procedure

The recovery takes 4 to 6 weeks in total. Your exact recovery timeline will depend on your age, the quality of your skin, and the extent of the procedure performed. Your recovery will also be shorter if you properly follow all your pre- and post-op instructions.

After 4-6 weeks, you will be safe to resume all your normal activities. At this point, the swelling and bruising should be gone. The incision will also be healed and begin to fade completely.

How Long Does it Take for Skin to Tighten After Chin Lipo?

During your consultation, Dr. Qazi will tell you that it takes 6 months for your liposuction results to be final. After 6 months, you can expect your skin to have tightened up. If you are still experiencing loose or sagging skin under your chin, you may want to consider a skin-tightening treatment like a PDO thread lift or RF micro needling.

How Long Does Liposuction Under the Chin Last?

The results from chin liposuction can be permanent if your weight remains stable.

This is because of how fat distribution in the body works. Everyone has a set number of fat cells in certain places in their body. When you gain weight, those fat cells are getting bigger. When you diet and exercise, those fat cells shrink again. By removing fat cells, liposuction limits how big that area of the body can become if you end up gaining weight. The body does not produce new fat cells, so the results can be very long-lasting.
