Hair Loss Treatments Without Surgery,  Needles or Other Invasive Techniques

Thanks to innovations in hair restoration technology, it is now possible to treat hair loss without an invasive procedure such as surgery or the use of needles.  Platelet rich plasma, commonly referred to as PRP, is injected directly into the scalp.  This all-natural treatment is comprised of the patient’s own blood.  There is no need for any type of surgery or downtime.  Most important is the fact that this approach to hair loss restoration does not cause any pain.

In fact, you can go right back to work or elsewhere after your hair loss treatment is performed.

Platelet rich plasma naturally stimulates hair follicle growth without needles.  This process requires the drawing of fresh blood from the patient’s body.  This blood is then quickly spun by the treatment provider.  The result is the creation of channels upwards of 4mm in depth.  Rest easy, this process is possible with the use of a Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved device.  The blood flow is stimulated to catalyze hair growth.  In fact, several studies prove the merits of PRP.

Candidates for Hair Loss Treatment With PRP

Just about everyone is a solid candidate for hair loss treatment with the use of PRP.  Whether you are a man, woman, senior citizen, in your 40s or younger, you will likely qualify as a candidate for PRP.  The bottom line is any individual who notices hair loss should not have to suffer in silence.  Be proactive, reach out to your doctor for a scalp and blood exam and you will find out if you are a candidate for hair loss treatments with PRP.

Once your physician determines underlying issues do not exist, you will likely be given the green light for hair loss treatment.  However, there is a chance a problem aside from genetics is responsible for your hair loss.

Be sure to consult with your physician to determine the true cause of your hair loss.

    The Frequency of PRP Treatment

Hair growth along the scalp occurs at a rate of .3 – .4 mm per day.  All in all, about six inches worth of hair grows on the scalp in a year’s time.  Human hair growth is somewhat unique compared to other mammals’ hair growth in that the growth and shedding is random as opposed to cyclical.  Human hair growth occurs in three distinct phases: the anagen stage, the catagen stage and the telogen stage.

    1. Anagen phase

The anagen stage is the active phase of hair growth.  Cells within the hair roots quickly divide, creating new hair, pushing the club hair that is no longer growing or has moved beyond the anagen phase up through the follicle and outward.

Hair grows one centimeter per month during the anagen phase.  Scalp hair remains in this active growth phase between a couple years and half a dozen years.  It is particularly interesting to note some individuals find it challenging to grow their hair out beyond a specific length due to an abbreviated active growth phase.  Those with especially lengthy hair have an elongated growth phase.

Hair along the eyebrows, eyelashes, legs and arms has a comparably short growth phase of 30 days, which explains why they are shorter than hair on the head.

    2. Catagen Phase

The next stage of hair growth is known as catagen.  This is a transitional stage.  Around 3% of hair is in the catagen stage at any point in time.  The catagen phase lasts a couple weeks.  Hair growth ceases during this stage.  The outer root sheath decreases and connects to hair roots during the catagen phase, creating club hair.

    3. Telogen Phase

The final phase of growth is the telogen phase.  This is a resting phase that typically comprises about 7% of hair on the scalp.  The telogen phase lasts around 100 days for scalp hairs.  This phase lasts even longer for hair on the legs, arms, eyelashes and eyebrows.  The telogen phase involves the hair follicle remaining at rest while the club hair forms.  If you pull out a hair during the telogen phase, it will have a dry and solid white portion along its root.

The specific frequency of PRP hair restoration treatment is dependent on your specific hair growth/loss rate.  If your hair grows at a comparably slow rate, PRP hair restoration will be required more frequently.  The frequency of PRP hair restoration differs from one patient to the next.  In general, PRP proves effective for hair growth rate and hair caliber across a period of four to six weeks.  However, a subsequent treatment will likely be necessary on a monthly basis every three months.

For the most part, patients benefit from PRP maintenance after a period of six months passes in order to ensure the hair growth effects make the intended impact.

Hair Loss Causes Aside From Genetics

Though few people are aware of it, stress, menopause, low estrogen and anxiety also play a role in the rate of hair loss for both men and women.  High levels of stress cause three different types of hair loss: alopecia areata, trichotillomania and telogen effluvium.  Telogen effluvium involves stress that pushes hair follicles to their resting phase, causing hair to quickly fall out when combing or washing.

Trichotillomania is the urge to yank hair out of the scalp as a result of tension, boredom, loneliness and other destructive feelings.  Thankfully, trichotillomania is fairly uncommon.  Alopecia areata is caused by several factors including stress.  The immune system essentially attacks the hair, spurring hair loss.

    Menopause Can Trigger Hair Loss

Menopause causes hair loss as estrogen levels decrease.  When estrogen and progesterone decline amidst menopause, the effects of male hormones known as androgens spike.  This results in hair growing slower than expected, causing hair follicles to shrink, resulting in weaker hair and subsequent hair loss.

Beware of Anxiety’s Impact on Your Hair

Anxiety also has the potential to lead to hair loss as the essential nutrients necessary for hair growth decrease.  As anxiety increases, there is heightened muscle tension and the generation of additional sebum production along the scalp and skin.  Stress stemming from a wide array of anxiety-inducing situations can lead to hair loss.

From relationship problems to chronic illness, pregnancy, insufficient nutrition, financial problems, jet lag and the use of medications, the causes of stress-induced hair loss are quite numerous.

If you suspect your anxiety is the cause of your hair loss, you can benefit from Dr, Qazi’s unique hair loss treatments.  However, it will also help to master relaxation techniques such as meditation, yoga and deep breathing.  Regular exercise also makes it easier to manage stress.  It is also in your interest to spend more time with individuals who have a positive outlook.

As a last resort, consider meeting with a professional therapist to help reduce your stress and preserve your hair.

Low Estrogen can Spur Hair Loss

Finally, low estrogen also plays a role in hair loss.  When hormones are not properly balanced, the hair thins and dries.  Women who have low estrogen or a thyroid imbalance are likely to endure a meaningful amount of hair loss.  Unfortunately, your hormone levels are out of your control.  If you know or suspect your low estrogen is causing your hair loss, reach out to our hair restoration specialists today for assistance.

    Additional Hair Loss Treatments

Hair restoration through PRP is the primary means of improving hair follicle quantity, quality and beauty.  However, this is not the sole approach to help with hair loss.  There are several medications available for hair regrowth.  As an example, you have likely seen commercials on TV for Propecia and Rogaine.

Propecia is a prescription drug.  This drug has been approved for use by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).  However, the FDA has only approved the drug for men.

Alternatively, Rogaine, which is a topical medication in liquid or foam form is provided over the counter.  This drug is approved for use in both men and women.  Some patients prefer Rogaine in foam form as there is the potential for the liquid form to slide down the face, resulting in hair growth along the sides of the face as opposed to on top of the head.

The FDA has also approved low level laser technology, referred to as LLLT.  LLLT is optimal for those plagued by patchy hair loss or thinning hair as it stimulates the body’s ability to grow and nourish hair through enhanced blood vessel functionality.

This treatment works across three specific phases.

    1. The initial phase is that in which the patient observes a meaningful reduction in hair follicles.
    2. The subsequent phase involves stimulating hair to increase its thickness, fullness and aesthetic.  This is accomplished with nourishment through heightened circulation and the detoxification of pathways.
    3. The final phase is particularly captivating as this is when the new hair follicles begin to grow, emerging as regular healthy hair.  LLLT functions at the cellular level, rejuvenating hair follicles in both sexes.  Hair rejuvenation is accomplished with the use of a red spectrum laser light that boosts the growth phase length, spiking ATP that fuels cells responsible for hair growth.

The result is cells with the energy necessary to divide that much faster, permitting hair to grow as it should.  The red light lasers used in LLLT are perfectly safe, effective, non-invasive and pain-free.

    Hair Restoration Done Right

Advancements in technology have made hair loss treatments possible in a timely and affordable manner.  Transdermal infusion technology works with the careful use of compressed gases such as air, oxygen and CO2 along with active ingredients and biologics.  Examples of such biologics include:

    • Hair serums
    • Sterile saline
    • Skin/hair serums
    • Platelet rich plasma
    • Beta hydroxy acids

These biologics create a microdroplet jet stream.  The droplets are transmitted upwards of an eighth of an inch down into the skin at a speed upwards of 445 miles per hour.  Though this might seem like an impactful and invasive method of hair restoration, it does not damage the epidermis.

The ingredients detailed above move down into the skin with a stretching of the surface to create a dimple of sorts.  The water micro-channels on the skin open to permit active ingredients/biologics to move down deep into the skin all the way to the reticular dermis.  When the pressure decreases, the surface of the skin levels out, allowing the micro-channels to close and nutrients in the skin to move across the collagen fibers of tissues.

However, this approach is not exactly the same as conventional skin therapies such as dermabrasion with the use of water, salt or sand.

Nor is this high-tech approach the same as a peel or mesotherapy as such supposed solutions merely work along the skin’s surface or require the use of invasive needles that have the potential to injure the epidermis.  Our unique approach to hair restoration poses no such threat

    The Hair Restoration Process

Let our team restore your hair and you will be in good hands the entire time.  We perform cleaning and exfoliation to ensure proper hair restoration occurs.  Dr. Qazi will carefully hold a hand piece at the proper angle to your skin surface, allowing the jet stream to stimulate the microcirculation along the skin, cleanse the pores and remove environmental and natural skin debris.

The angle at which the handpiece is held can be altered to increase penetration down into the surface of the skin.  These hand pieces transmit hair and skin nutrients by way of fine nozzles down into the skin.  Such nutrients are capable of holding strong amidst the considerable speed and pressure involved in the hair restoration process, retaining potency and proving effective.
