How Long Does Juvederm Last? Everything You Need to Know About This Popular Filler
Juvederm is a hyaluronic acid filler that can enhance your facial features and reduce signs of aging. Find out how long Juvederm lasts and what to expect from this treatment.
If you’re looking for a way to rejuvenate your appearance without surgery, you might have heard of Juvederm. Juvederm is a collection of injectable fillers that can add volume and smoothness to different areas of your face. Whether you want to plump up your lips, lift your cheeks, define your chin, or soften your smile lines, Juvederm has a product for you. But how long does Juvederm last, and what are the benefits and risks of this treatment? Here’s everything you need to know about Juvederm before you book your appointment.
What is Juvederm and how does it work?
Juvederm is a brand name for a type of dermal filler that contains hyaluronic acid (HA). HA is a natural substance that is found in your skin, joints, and eyes. It helps keep your skin hydrated, elastic, and youthful. As you age, your body produces less HA, which can lead to wrinkles, sagging, and loss of volume.
Juvederm works by injecting HA into the skin or under the skin, depending on the product and the area being treated. The HA acts as a sponge that attracts and retains water, creating a plumping and smoothing effect. Juvederm also stimulates collagen production, which improves the skin’s structure and elasticity over time.
Juvederm has six products in its collection, each designed for a specific purpose and area of the face:
- For lips: Juvederm Ultra XC is a nonsurgical lip enhancement product that plumps lips for up to a year. Juvederm Volbella XC creates subtly fuller lips and smooths vertical lip lines for up to a year.
- For cheeks: Juvederm Voluma XC is a cheek filler that lifts and contours the cheek area for up to two years. It can also be used to augment the chin and improve the chin profile.
- For lines and wrinkles: Juvederm XC smooths parentheses lines around your nose and mouth (nasolabial folds), lasting up to a year. Juvederm Vollure XC also treats nasolabial folds and marionette lines (the lines that run from the corners of your mouth to your chin), lasting up to 18 months.
- For jawline: Juvederm Volux XC is a new product that enhances the jawline definition and reduces moderate to severe loss of jawline contour in adults over 21. It lasts up to two years.

How long does Juvederm last?
The longevity of Juvederm depends on several factors, such as the product used, the area treated, the amount injected, the injection technique, and your individual metabolism. In general, Juvederm products last between one to two years, with some variation depending on the specific product.
According to clinical studies123, here are the average durations of each Juvederm product:
- Juvederm Ultra XC: 12 months
- Juvederm Volbella XC: 12 months
- Juvederm Voluma XC: 24 months
- Juvederm XC: 12 months
- Juvederm Vollure XC: 18 months
- Juvederm Volux XC: 24 months
Keep in mind that these are averages based on clinical trials, and your results may vary depending on your individual factors. Some people may need touch-up treatments sooner than others to maintain their desired results.

Why we prefer other fillers at Qazi Cosmetic Center
At Qazi Cosmetic Center, we are committed to providing our patients with the best and safest treatments for their aesthetic goals. That’s why we do not use Juvederm as much as other fillers, especially for the lips and the lower face. Juvederm products use a technology called Vycross, which crosslinks HA molecules with different sizes to create a smooth and cohesive gel. While this technology has some advantages, such as longer duration and less swelling, it also has some drawbacks.
One of the main drawbacks of Vycross technology is the increased risk of delayed-onset nodules. These are lumps or bumps that can appear weeks, months, or even years after the injection. They can be inflammatory or non-inflammatory, and they can cause pain, discomfort, and aesthetic dissatisfaction. According to a recent analysis1, the global reported rate of delayed-onset nodules associated with Vycross fillers is low (<0.016%), but still higher than other HA fillers. Inflammatory nodules, which usually require treatment or removal, were more common than non-inflammatory nodules.
Another drawback of Vycross technology is the tendency of the filler to migrate or move from the injection site. This can result in unnatural or uneven results, especially in areas with high mobility, such as the lips and the lower face. Some patients have reported that their lips became distorted or asymmetrical after using Juvederm fillers.
For these reasons, we prefer to use other fillers that have a lower risk of nodules and migration, such as Restylane, Belotero, and Versa. These fillers use different technologies that create more stable and predictable results. They also have different formulations and viscosities that suit different areas and purposes.

Restylane is a family of fillers that uses NASHA (non-animal stabilized hyaluronic acid) technology, which crosslinks HA molecules with the same size to create a firmer and more structured gel. Restylane products are ideal for enhancing facial contours and correcting moderate to severe wrinkles and folds. They also have a natural-looking effect on the lips.
Belotero is a filler that uses CPM (cohesive polydensified matrix) technology, which crosslinks HA molecules with different densities to create a soft and flexible gel. Belotero products are ideal for smoothing fine lines and wrinkles, especially around the eyes and mouth. They also integrate well with the skin tissue and have minimal swelling.
Versa is a filler that uses Prollenium’s proprietary formula and spherical particle shape to create a smooth and uniform gel. Versa products are ideal for adding volume and hydration to the lips and cheeks. They also have less swelling and bruising than other fillers.
