What Neck Lift Surgical vs. Nonsurgical Options Are Best For You?

You can exfoliate, do face masks, use jade rollers and gua sha stones, apply anti-aging serums, cleanse, get facials, and wash your face with expensive products all day long. However, it still might not be possible to completely hide your age. Why? It’s because of your neck. Most people put a lot of effort into fighting wrinkles and keeping their face youthful; however, the neck can develop wrinkles and begin to sag just like the face does.

If you don’t want your neck to give away your age, you have many neck lift surgical vs. nonsurgical options. Qazi Cosmetic Clinic works with a team of highly experienced plastic surgeons who are experts at performing neck lifts. If you want to go the nonsurgical route, Dr. Qazi offers several comfortable and effective procedures that can turn back the clock on your neck.

What Are My Neck Lift Surgical vs. Nonsurgical Options?

If you want to rejuvenate your neck, you have several options for procedures. A surgical neck lift is a standard procedure that is used to tighten sagging skin and trim away extra fat from the neck. It is normally combined with a face lift or a brow lift, and can last up to 10 years depending on how well you care for your skin. When it comes to nonsurgical neck lifts, you have 5 options for procedures: Botox (or a similar neurotoxin), laser treatment, PDO thread lift, Kybella, and RF Microneedling.

Your choice between neck lift surgical vs. nonsurgical options will depend on a few key factors:

  1. The extent of your cosmetic concerns – Surgical procedures are able to fix a greater range and a greater severity of issues than non-surgical procedures. If you have lots of sagging skin, you will probably need to go the surgical route.
  1. Are you a candidate for surgery? – Going “under the knife” as they say is no small thing. Patients need to be in good physical health and be prepared for the discomfort of recovery. If you have health concerns or don’t want a lengthy recovery, non-surgical may be a better option.
  1. How much are you prepared to pay? – Surgery is always more costly than non-invasive procedures. Costs like anesthesia, the medical team’s time and expertise, the use of the surgical suite, the materials used, and your medications can add up fast. Nonsurgical procedures are more affordable.
  1. What are your goals? – If you want a huge transformation, maybe including a facelift, then the surgical procedure is the way to go. However, if you want results that are more subtle and only make small, targeted tweaks to your appearance, a nonsurgical procedure may be best.
  1. How long the results will last – How long your results will last is a huge factor in how patients choose procedures. If you get neck lift surgery, the results can last 10 to 15 years, depending on how well you take care of your skin. Nonsurgical procedures typically only last between 6 and 12 months. Kybella can be as long-lasting as surgery; however, this procedure can require multiple sessions and it only addresses fat under the chin, not wrinkles or sagging skin.

What is a Surgical Neck Lift? How Does It Make Me Look Younger?

A neck lift is a straightforward procedure. Depending on the patient and your unique cosmetic needs, a neck lift normally involves 2 parts

For patients who have a little extra fat under their chin, the surgical team will liposuction out the extra fat cells. Once the fat cells are gone, it is nearly impossible for your double chin to return.

Next, the surgical team will trim away extra skin from the neck. Since liposuction normally causes the skin to become loose after the underlying fat cells are removed, tightening the skin is necessary for transforming your profile.

Finally, the surgical team will pull the skin across your neck tight and erase any bands that have already formed. After the procedure is over, you are bandaged up and sent to the recovery room where you will be monitored by experienced professionals.

Patients who opt for a surgical neck lift, normally love their results! Neck lifts have very high satisfaction rates among all age groups. On average, a neck lift can take up to 6 years off your appearance alone. When combined with a face lift or a brow lift, you will look up to 10 years younger.  Not only will the texture of the skin on your neck be improved, you can also ditch the turkey neck.

5 Things To Know Before Your Neck Lift

    1. What makes someone a good candidate for a neck lift?

The first most important thing to know before your neck lift is if you are a suitable candidate for the procedure. Dr. Qazi will discuss this with you during your consultation. Patients who have a bleeding disorder, a history of bad reactions to anesthesia, or who are not in good enough health for elective surgery should not get a neck lift.

The ideal patient is someone who is healthy enough for surgery, can easily take time off work to recover, and has cosmetic concerns that justify surgery.

    2. How to prepare for the procedure

When you schedule a consultation at Qazi Cosmetic Clinic, you will receive some information about how to prepare for your surgery. You can also expect further instructions during a pre-op call.

These instructions vary by person because they are customized to your unique needs. Common instructions include: stop smoking and drinking alcohol, avoid blood thinning medications like Aspirin, avoid excess sun exposure, and arrange for a ride home after surgery. You may also be asked to stop taking certain herbal supplements, vitamins, and other medications that you are on.

    3. The risks and side effects

Every surgical procedure has risks and potential side effects. The best way to avoid these outcomes is to follow your doctor’s instructions as closely as possible. Some risks and side effects of getting a neck lift include: nerve injury, excessive bleeding under the skin, adverse reaction to anesthesia, infection, blood clotting, thick scarring, and damage to the skin.

    4. What to expect for the recovery

Bruising, swelling, general discomfort, and changes to sensation are completely normal after a neck lift. All patients must wear a special support garment for the first 1 to 2 weeks after surgery. You should also avoid strenuous activity, bending or twisting, touching or sleeping on the treated area, and saunas.

Most patients are safe to go back to work or school within 7 to 10 days. Any lingering bruises can be hidden by a scarf or a turtleneck. By 6 weeks, you can resume normal activities, including exercise, swimming, and yoga. It takes about 6 months for you to be fully healed and for the results to be final. By the 6 month mark, you can expect your scars to be completely invisible to others.

    5. Your scars may be visible from certain angles, but they will be hard to spot.

The surgical team at Qazi Cosmetic Clinic always hides the incisions in places that are hard to spot. For example, the incisions made during a neck lift are normally hidden under the chin and behind the ears. If you take good care of your skin as you heal, your incisions will fade until they are nearly invisible. You might be able to see them since you know where they are, but others will be unlikely to notice them. The scars may be visible from very specific angles, but most people will not notice them unless they are looking very closely.

Neck Lift Surgical vs. Nonsurgical Options: Non-Invasive Procedures For De-Aging Your Neck

Neck lift surgery is not for everyone. When deciding between different neck lift surgical vs. nonsurgical options, it is important to consider all the ways that non-invasive procedures can have similar results as surgical procedures.

However, nonsurgical procedures have certain benefits and downsides compared to surgical procedures. For example, nonsurgical procedures have less recovery time; in some cases, you can drop in for an appointment on your lunch break and go straight back to in-person meetings.

Nonsurgical options are also more affordable because you don’t have to pay for all the costs related to surgery and medical care. However, unlike surgical procedures, some nonsurgical options may require follow-up sessions to maintain your results. Depending on how long you wish to maintain your youthful neck through nonsurgical procedures, it may be more affordable in the long term to opt for a surgical neck lift.

While you evaluate your neck lift surgical vs. nonsurgical options, here are 5 nonsurgical and non-invasive procedures to consider: Botox, laser treatment, PDO thread lift, Kybella, and RF Microneedling.

Botox, Xeomin, and Dysport For Neck Rejuvenation

Botox is well-known in the beauty world: it is a neurotoxin that paralyzes the underlying muscles in the face to smooth wrinkles and prevent new ones from forming. Botox is best known for erasing frown lines, smoothing Marionette Lines, and reducing those stubborn parentheses around the mouth and nose.

Xeomin and Dysport are modern alternatives to Botox. They are a purer form of the neurotoxin with fewer additives, so they are the perfect solution for people who develop resistance to Botox or who have an allergic reaction to Botox.

Botox, Xeomin, and Dysport are also suitable for use on the neck, as well as on the face. If you have fine lines and minor wrinkles on your neck that give away your age, then Botox or another neurotoxin can help! These injectables will work in the neck the same way that they work in the face: by paralyzing the nerve signals to the muscles in the neck, which will stop lines and wrinkles in their tracks.

When you get your Botox injections, you will have to wait 2 weeks for your results to settle. The results last between 3 to 6 months, so some touch ups and return appointments will be necessary.

How Skin Resurfacing Can Treat Wrinkles on the Neck

Skin resurfacing is the process in which the top layer of the skin is safely and strategically damaged in order to promote natural healing. Laser treatments and RF microneedling are the two best resurfacing treatments for neck wrinkles.

Qazi Cosmetic Clinic offers a variety of types of lasers, so it is easy to customize the treatment to your skin. However, only the Pico laser is safe for darker skin tones. If you have questions about which type of laser is best for you, schedule a consultation at Qazi Cosmetic Clinic.

RF Microneedling works a little differently: the device makes strategic punctures in the skin and applies radiofrequency waves to the layers of the skin. This provides for more effective treatment than microneedling alone.

When you get skin resurfacing with laser treatment or RF microneedling, you can expect the results to last up to 6 months. Some patients require multiple initial sessions, as well as follow-up sessions to maintain their results.

      Neck Lift

Neck Lift Surgical vs. Nonsurgical Options: Try a PDO Thread Lift

A PDO thread lift is one of the best nonsurgical alternatives to a neck lift. Also called sugar threading, this procedure works when barbed threads are inserted under the skin. The barbs latch into the sagging tissues and the threads are pulled tight to lift them back into place. Because of the mechanics of this procedure, it works better for fixing sagging skin on the neck than any other nonsurgical alternative.

PDO threads are considered to be a natural anti-aging solution because the body will naturally dissolve the threads over time. Your thread lift will last 6 to 18 months, after which time, you will need a follow-up appointment to have new threads placed.

Kybella: The Non-Invasive Double Chin Treatment

For some patients, the cause of their neck-related woes is not wrinkles or sagging skin on their neck, but a double chin that only gets bigger with age. The good news is that you don’t have to go under the knife to say goodbye to your double chin.

Kybella is an FDA-approved treatment that uses deoxycholic acid to break down and destroy fat cells in the chin. Once the fat cells are destroyed, they are unable to come back. Because of this, Kybella is one of the few nonsurgical procedures that offers long-lasting results.

However, Kybella can sometimes result in sagging skin on the chin. Dr. Qazi recommends that patients with sagging skin consider Renuvion – a nonsurgical, skin-tightening procedure that uses heat to fix excess sagging skin.
