Why Is a Non-Surgical PDO Thread Facelift So Popular?

Bella Hadid had one. So did Ariana Grande, Lily Aldridge, and most likely everyone in the Kardashian-Jenner family.

After all, if you’re a fan of Instagram, you probably already know that these famous folks are fans of the very versatile, non-surgical PDO thread facelift.

What Are PDO Threads? Why Do People Get Facelifts With Them?

As we age, our facial skin naturally starts to sag, from your foreheads and your eyebrows to your cheeks and necks. That’s inevitable. That’s life. That’s gravity.

But now, following the new celebrity trend to attain a V-shaped face, both men and women can get a face lift using absorbable PDO threads –– without surgery.

If you could walk in the designer shoe footsteps of 23-year-old Ms. Hadid who was voted Model of the Year 2016, or 26-year-old singer Ms. Grande, among others, you can be just about any age to request this kind of signature procedure from Qazi Cosmetic Clinic for a “snatched”, tight cheek definition.

An Instant Lift to Your Face and Your Self-Esteem.

For decades before this type of procedure, if you wanted the results of instantly tightened skin on your face, neck, or body, you had to undergo a traditional facelift that involved being anesthetized, cutting, lifting, stapling, stitching, swelling, and some pain. Fortunately, with this minimally invasive in-office procedure, you can avoid surgery.

What Are PDO Threads? Are They Safe?

At Qazi Clinic, we use a variety of different types of threads, including smooth, screw, barb, pell with sculptra (an injectable cosmetic filler).

The threads are typically made of sugar and are very safe because they’ve proven themselves through years of trusted use in heart surgery.

Specifically, mint PDO threads, nova PDO threads, miracu PDO threads, and silhouette PDO threads are all FDA-approved in the U.S. We use them all in our office, depending on the patient, and what his or her particular goal may be.

Dr. Nadir Qazi stresses the importance of using only FDA-approved threads and products in his practice for optimal results.

How Does a PDO Thread Facelift Work?

After keeping you comfortable by using both topical and injectable lidocaine for local numbing, Dr. Qazi inserts a hollow needle into your skin to position small barbed absorbable PDO threads into your soft facial tissue.

After removing the needle, the threads attach to your tissue and start to stimulate the production of collagen, which is the main structural protein in the extracellular matrix in various connective tissues in your body.

Next, the remaining PDO threads are slightly pulled up to lift any mild to moderate sagging skin, which can coincidentally reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

Areas that Dr. Qazi treats with PDO threads include heavy jowls, to define your cheeks, jawline, lips, neck, body, and brow lifts –– all without surgery.

Those virtually invisible threads remain in your skin for up to four to six months, then harmlessly dissolve. There is minimal pain from the numbing needles, the needle entry points are not visible, and there is no scarring post-treatment.

    What Does PDO Thread Cost?

The cost of each treatment varies, depending on the condition of your skin and the number of threads required to achieve optimal results per your individual goals.

The cost of a pdo thread facelift will be determined during your initial consultation with Dr. Nadir Qazi; however, the cost is much lower than a traditional surgical face lift because of general anesthesia, longer procedure times, prescription drugs for pain, post-surgical office appointments, and other expenses.

What is the Healing and After Care Process for PDO Threads?

Dr. Nadir Qazi in Newport Beach, CA advises his patients that they may notice some swelling and a small mosquito bite type bump at the insertion site immediately after the procedure. This usually only lasts a few days and is not noticeable to others. Dr. Nadir Qazi also recommends avoiding any medications that can cause bruises or bleeding, such as NSAIDs or blood thinners. You should also not consume coffee, fish oil, or alcohol for 72 hours after the treatment.

    • For the first two weeks after your non-surgical facelift, you should avoid flossing your teeth, soaking your sutures in a bath, jacuzzi, or swimming pool, visiting a sauna or steam room, engaging in vigorous exercise, avoid direct pressure to your face and area where your sutures were, as well as not engaging in excessive chewing, talking, yawning, smiling, facials, facial waving, Glycolic, or AHA peels.
    • For minor pain relief, use Tylenol (Acetaminophen) for any discomfort, but do not take Ibuprofen or Naproxen in the first three days after your procedure.
    • To reduce bruising and swelling, it’s recommended that you apply a cool compress for 10 minutes per hour the day of your treatment for the first 24 hours.
    • We also recommend that you should not schedule any special events within two weeks since some swelling or bruising may occur, though traveling is considered safe.
    • Finally, early infections may occur after the first few days of treatment, as you might notice increasing redness, tenderness, swelling, pain, heat, nodules, or pus. Please contact our office immediately if you notice any of these symptoms.

What Are The Results of a PDO Thread Facelift?

A typical PDO Thread Lift takes between 30 minutes and two hours, depending on the patient and the various areas that are being treated. Therefore, downtime is minimal.

Many patients see an immediate improvement, but results get better over time as collagen is produced and builds. Typically, full results can be seen in about four to eight weeks and can last up to two years. Dr. Nadir Qazi recommends a follow-up appointment for an aesthetic review between four to eight weeks after your procedure.
