Types of Laser Treatments For Dark Spots, Melasma, Sun Damage, & More!

Did you know that, in addition to being known for pumpkin spiced lattes and knee-high boots, autumn is also known as “laser season.” Many people flock to undergo laser treatments to heal and rejuvenate their skin after a summer of fun, tanning, and sun damage.

But you can undergo cosmetic procedures at any time! Life is too short to not look and feel your best. If you feel self-conscious about your dark spots, melasma, sun damage, and wrinkles, read on to learn about your options for types of laser treatments

Why Should I Consider Getting a Type of Laser Treatment?

Cosmetic procedures are all the rage right now, from PDO Thread Lifts for that perfect cat eye to Botox for contouring your jaw to be runway worthy. You have many options for getting your perfect look so that you can live your best life.

Why consider types of laser treatments? Because laser treatments are the future of cosmetic procedures.

Laser treatments are also ideal because they can target specific areas, involve less downtime than a surgical procedure, and are virtually painless. They offer an all-in-one solution to a variety of cosmetic ailments.

There is nothing to worry about with most types of laser treatments. This type of cosmetic procedure is ideal for ordinary people like you and me. The treatment will fix cosmetic concerns to improve your complexion, but ultimately you will still look like yourself – just a younger, better looking version.

Don’t worry – Face ID on your phone will still work just fine after the procedure. And the results will look so natural that your coworkers would never dream of accusing you of “going under the knife.”

Here’s why you should consider laser treatment:

Because you deserve to look your best. Sometimes self-care isn’t all yoga, face masks, and bath bombs; sometimes self-care means giving yourself the confidence to walk into any room and grab life by the horns.

Benefits of Laser Treatment

Qazi Cosmetic Clinic offers a variety of treatments for all your cosmetic issues – both surgical and non-surgical. The types of laser treatments that Dr. Qazi offers have several benefits over other cosmetic procedures. For one, laser treatments are non-invasive, non-surgical, and require minimal downtime. Whereas surgical facelift procedures can have you sitting around in your sweats watching Netflix for months until your face heals, laser treatments take about 2 weeks max to heal.

Laser treatments are also ideal because they can target specific areas. If you only have a handful of dark spots across your cheeks or just want a couple of wrinkles around your mouth gone, laser can help with that! Other treatments like chemical peels are designed for addressing major cosmetic concerns all over the face and are used to resurface the skin indiscriminately. Lasers, on the other hand, can also focus on minor areas, while leaving the rest of your skin untouched.

Additionally, many patients prefer lasers over other treatments because the lasers work by activating their body’s natural healing abilities. Some patients are uncomfortable with the idea of Botox or dermal fillers because they don’t want anything injected into their skin.

Laser treatments, however, merely prompt your body to heal damage to the skin while boosting collagen production.

What Cosmetic Concerns Can It Treat?

Certain types of laser treatments are better for addressing certain cosmetic concerns but, in general, laser treatments can fix:

  • Dark spots
  • Uneven pigmentation
  • Red and brown spots
  • Wrinkles and fine lines
  • Skin laxity
  • Melasma
  • Sun damage
  • Spider veins
  • Some types of scars, including acne scars
  • Stretch marks

The best way to find out if laser treatment is right for you is to schedule a consultation with Dr. Qazi.

A consultation is the best time to get answers to all your burning questions about types of laser treatments. During the consultation, Dr. Qazi will listen to your goals, concerns, and needs then customize a treatment that will give you your desired results. In some cases, you may require a combination of treatments or multiple treatments to achieve your aesthetic goals.

Types of Laser Treatments: Introducing the Pico Laser

Pico Lasers have been very popular in Asian countries, especially Korea, for some time. Now that they have become popular in the west, people are lining up to experience the transformative magic of this laser.

This type of laser treatment is unique because it uses high energy instead of heat to destroy skin discoloration. Other lasers use heat, which can cause damage to darker skin tones.

The pico laser is the first laser of its kind to be safe for darker skin tones. It is also considered to be one of the most gentle options for laser treatment. This is because the laser delivers ultra-short bursts of energy that preserve the surrounding skin without causing you excessive discomfort.

What It Treats:

  • Sun damage
  • Dark spots
  • Unwanted freckles
  • Pigmented scars
  • Melasma
  • Stretch marks & acne scars
  • Tattoo removal

While a majority of types of laser treatments are used on the face, this laser is also safe for use on the neck, back, legs, arms, hands, chest, and behind. This means that you finally have a way to say goodbye to embarrassing dark spots and stretch marks that are preventing you from rocking a bikini this summer.

Benefits of Pico Over Other Types of Laser Treatments

  1. The pico laser isn’t just for Caucasian women anymore. People of all skin tones can finally get laser treatment without fear of skin damage or hypopigmentation.
  1. It is the most comfortable laser on the market. Many patients don’t even require numbing cream for the procedure. This is because the laser’s ultra-fast energy bursts do no damage to the surrounding skin and the speed helps prevent discomfort.
  1. Unlike other laser treatments that require 1-2 weeks of downtime, this treatment only necessitates 1-2 days. While you can expect some redness and swelling, it is significantly reduced because of how gentle the laser is. You are safe to wear makeup almost immediately after without fear of harming your skin.
  1. The procedure itself is quick and comfortable; it usually takes only 20 minutes. This makes it ideal for people with busy schedules who need to always look their best. You can easily pop by Qazi Cosmetic Clinic on your lunch hour then go right back to business once the procedure is over.

Is Pico Laser Treatment Right For Me?

Whether the pico laser is right for you depends on your goals and the type of your skin condition. This type of laser treatment is best for treating skin discoloration issues like melasma, dark spots, freckles, and unwanted tattoos. However, it is less effective at correcting fine lines and wrinkles than other laser procedures.

The pico laser treatment does often require multiple sessions for patients to see their desired results. Between 3 and 6 sessions is normal; however, small issues can be treated in a single session. If large areas of the body are being treated, then up to 9 sessions may be required. Dr. Qazi recommends scheduling sessions 1-2 weeks apart for people with lighter skin tones and 3-4 weeks apart for people with darker skin tones.

CO2 Laser Treatment For Wrinkles, Scars, and Warts

The CO2 laser is a type of ablative laser that is designed for skin resurfacing. This means that is ideal for treating more serious cosmetic concerns, like deep wrinkles, large scars, and warts. This laser works by using pulses of heat to carefully remove the superficial layer of skin.

While this may sound intense and scary, it is perfectly safe. By safely damaging the outer layer of skin, your body is prompted to naturally heal itself by creating more collagen. Many cosmetic procedures work this same way; for example, RF Microneedling improves skin appearance by creating micro wounds that activate the body’s healing abilities.

Every procedure has its pros and cons. Here are some things to consider before you commit to this type of laser treatment:

  • Treats severe wrinkles and scars without the need for cosmetic surgery
  • Can be used to remove warts on many different areas of the body
  • Usually requires fewer sessions than other laser treatments. Many patients see their results in just one.
  • Functions like a non-surgical facelift to address wrinkles, dark spots, and facial scars with a single procedure that leaves you looking years younger.
  • If you take good care of your skin afterwards, the results can be very long lasting

    • This type of laser is less gentle than the Pico, so you will require numbing cream during the procedure.
    • In rare cases, side effects can include burning sensations, bumps, rash, swelling, infection, hyperpigmentation, scars, and lingering redness.
    • Recovery can take up to 2 weeks. On average, it takes between 3 and 10 days for the redness and swelling to go away completely. Peeling, scabs, and irritated skin are to be expected.
    • Your skin will require more aftercare than with other procedures, including cleaning the area 2 to 5 times a day and moisturizing thoroughly.
    • Only safe on lighter skin tones

The ideal candidate for this type of laser treatment is a caucasion patient without a history of smoking, who has severe wrinkles, lines, warts, or other concerns that necessitate skin resurfacing. Patients who have flexible work schedules and who can take a couple of days off of work for recovery will be the best match for CO2 laser treatment.

The Solution to Sun Damage: LaseMD

One of the newest types of laser treatments on the market is LaseMD, which is quickly becoming popular for its ability to erase sun damage. The LaseMD laser is non-ablative, meaning that it does not injure the surface of the skin. Instead, it applies heat to the skin for effective skin tightening and to boost collagen production.

The LaseMD treatment can include just the lasering, but it can also come with a full-service experience, including customized serums and face masks that will give you the glowing skin of your dreams. On its own, the laser works by creating micro-channels and leaving the surrounding tissues unharmed. This alone will improve your skin texture and complexion when it boosts your elastin and collagen production.

For rejuvenated skin and the complete spa experience, you also have the option of taking the LaseMD treatment one step further. The scientists behind LaseMD also created a complementary series of serums and face masks that can be used in conjunction with the laser. Once the laser creates micro-channels in the skin, Dr. Qazi can apply a special serum that will hydrate and rejuvenate your skin. The treatment will be concluded with a LaseMD face mask that will lock-in the benefits of the serums and the lasering.

While it is best for treating sun damage, LaseMD can also treat:

    • Fine lines
    • Blemishes
    • Uneven skin tone & texture
    • Melasma

    Benefits of LaseMD

LaseMD is becoming increasingly popular for how comfortable and easy it is. The procedure lasts under an hour and requires no downtime. In fact, many professionals in the Orange County area like to maintain their energetic, youthful glow with weekly LaseMD treatments. You can pop in on your lunch hour and go right back to work.

It is also ideal for patients of all skin tones and types. This means that gals with darker complexions can enjoy becoming even more gorgeous after their skin is rejuvenated to a youthful glow.

The treatment itself is painless because the laser doesn’t damage the surrounding tissues. You can expect to see the results of the transformation after around 10 days. As your collagen levels are increased over time, your skin texture will continue to improve over the next 12 weeks.

Immediately after the procedure, you can expect a small amount of redness – it looks like a light sunburn. It is nothing to worry about because it will go away in a few hours and you are safe to cover it with makeup in the meantime.
