As women age, the breasts gradually lose elasticity, shape, and firmness. Life events like pregnancy, breast feeding, and weight changes can also cause the breasts to sag and droop. This is where a breast lift comes in.
A breast lift, also called a mastopexy, is a surgical procedure in which a surgeon raises the breasts to their former position and repositions the nipples. Once reshaped, the breasts will appear firmer, more rounded, and perkier. Breast lifts are suitable for women of all ages and the team of surgeons at Qazi Cosmetic Clinic are experts at making the results look subtle and natural.
Who is a good candidate for a breast lift?
The ideal candidate is anyone who has breasts that sag, nipples that point downwards, or whose breasts are asymmetrical. Patients should be done having children and breastfeeding before they get a breast lift.
While anyone over the age of 18 whose breasts are fully developed can get a breast lift, most women don’t require one until after they have had kids or after the age of 50.
What is the difference between a breast lift and breast implants?
A breast lift is meant to address sagging, dropping, and poor nipple position. Implants are designed to add more volume to the chest. Breast lift surgery restores the chest after the patient’s breasts have begun to sag. This is why most women who get a lift are older and have had children.
Breast implants are popular with women of all ages whether they have had kids or not. Implants transform the breasts to be bigger, more rounded, and to balance out a woman’s figure.
Is it safe to get a breast lift if I am pregnant or nursing?
It is best that patients wait until they are done having kids and done nursing to get a breast lift. This is because further breastfeeding and weight fluctuations caused by pregnancy can hurt the results and make the breasts droop again.
Will I have visible scars after a breast lift?
It depends on the technique used, how well the skin bounces back, and how much tissue has to be removed. There are many surgical techniques that can hide visible scars or leave patients with no visible scarring.
Are the results permanent?
Yes, because a breast lift is surgical, the results are long-lasting and can be permanent. Factors like aging, gravity, smoking, weight changes, pregnancy, and breastfeeding can negatively affect the results and cause the breasts to droop again.
How do I prepare for a breast lift?
In order to avoid possible risks, patients should be as healthy as possible for the procedure. All patients are instructed to stop smoking 4 weeks in advance and refrain from alcohol 1 week before the surgery. Other medications like blood thinners and certain herbal medication must also be stopped at least 2 weeks before surgery.
What is the recovery like after a breast lift?
After a breast lift, patients are advised to take the week off work because some swelling, bruising, and soreness is to be expected. All patients will need to wear a postoperative garment for at least 2 weeks. After those 2 weeks, it is safe to resume normal activities, including cardio. After 2 to 4 weeks, it is safe to lift weights again. After 4-6 weeks, patients can resume chest exercises. Most patients are fully healed and back to their normal activities after 6 weeks. It can take several months for the breasts to settle into place.
Will the procedure be painful?
Breast lifts are always done under general anesthesia. The only pain that patients can expect to feel is the soreness after the surgery. This can be mitigated with over-the-counter or prescription medications. The soreness will go away within 2-3 weeks.
Will the procedure be painful?
The surgery is performed under general anesthesia, so patients will not feel any pain or discomfort. After the surgery, some mild pain and discomfort is normal. Most patients find that the soreness and discomfort dissipates in 2 to 3 weeks.
Can I combine a breast lift with other cosmetic procedures?
Yes! Breast lifts are frequently combined with breast augmentation to completely rejuvenate the breasts. It is also possible to combine a breast lift with a tummy tuck for a complete “mommy makeover.”
